5 Chemical Markers that authenticate Manuka

Prior to 2018 there was no definition, official standard or agreement as to what constitutes Manuka Honey. In 2014 the New Zealand Government’s Ministry of Primary Industries undertook a major 3-year programme to define Manuka Honey scientifically. This was a massive undertaking and required significant investment by the New Zealand government; and in 2017 it was concluded that there are 5 attributes (4 chemical and 1 DNA) which can authenticate Manuka Honey. These tests also differentiate multifloral Manuka (blend) and monofloral Manuka (pure).
