Monofloral and Multifloral?
The scientific definition categorises 2 distinct type of Manuka Honey: Multifloral and Monofloral. Multifloral will have high levels of Manuka however there will be significant levels of other floral sources within the honey. Monofloral is considered pure with the significant floral source being Manuka.
Honey can only be labelled: Mānuka honey; or Monofloralmānuka honey if it passes the Monofloral Manuka Honey test.
Honey that only passes the Multifloral test can still use the word ‘manuka’ but only with clear qualifications e.g. ‘Mānuka blend honey’; ‘Multifloralmānuka honey’; or ‘Multifloralmānuka with other honey’.
