Benefits of Honey

Manuka Honey is the only honey available that is tested for its antibacterial activity. It contains an additional antibacterial component found only in honey produced from Leptospermum plants. The difference in potency of antibacterial activity found among the different honeys is more than 100–fold.

Differences between ordinary honey and Manuka Honey

  • Only manuka honey provides non-hydrogen peroxide antibacterial components
  • Manuka honey’s antibacterial factor is unaffected by enzymes in the body that destroy hydrogen peroxide components
  • Manuka honey is highly effective against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria
  • Manuka honey maintains its potency even when diluted over 50 times, as will happen when used on the body
  • Manuka honey is unaffected by heat, light or aging
  • Manuka honey does not require moisture or oxygen to be effective
  • Manuka honey diffuses deep into skin tissue, making it possible to deliver it to affected areas.

Antibacterial Rating

Manuka Honey’s antibacterial effectiveness is determined by assessing the levels of total peroxide activity and the non peroxide activity in the honey. Only the non peroxide activity is unaffected by heat and light.

Quality Control and Standards

The collection, processing and supply of New Zealand honey is strictly controlled by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA). The tight controls ensure New Zealand honey remains free from overseas pests and diseases and of the highest quality for safe human consumption. http://www.foodsafety.govt.nz/industry/sectors/honey-bee/

New Zealand Bee Keeping

European Honeybees (Apis mellifera) were first introduced into New Zealand in 1839. With a range of native flora found nowhere else in the World, plus a number of introduced plants that grow prolifically in New Zealand’s temperate climate, our honeybees create honeys that are the very distillation of New Zealand’s essential ancient Gondwanaland origins.

These honeys cover a huge range of flavour types and properties. From mild to very strong flavoured, light to dark coloured, delicately perfumed to pungent and even honeys with significant antibacterial properties.

Natures Koha Pure New Zealand Manuka Honey Lozenges

Natures Koha Pure New Zealand Manuka Honey Lozenges are the only lozenge that is made almost entirely from honey – even other ‘honey’ lozenges contain sugar or artificial ingredients as their first ingredient.
They are high in antioxidants and natural antibacterial activity and oligosaccharides.

Natures Koha Lozenges are effective at soothing sore throats, coughs and colds: in a recent study, honeys high in antioxidants were shown to be more effective at soothing coughs than cough medicine. They’re also a lot safer than other lozenges as they don’t contain any chemical ingredients, many of which have limited
or no research on their safety once consumed.
